Creative Elastomers is a recognized leading manufacturer and supplier of high quality rubber diaphragms, also referred to as diaphragm seals A rubber diaphragm is a sheet of semi-flexible rubber that is anchored at its outer edges and is most often round or square in form or shape. Diaphragms serve as barriers between two mating surfaces, moving slightly up into one chamber or down into another chamber depending on differences in pressure. The diaphragm will transmit pressure from one chamber to another without exchanging any media (fluid or air) between the chambers.


Molded Elastomeric Diaphragms are tough, versatile dynamic seals that eliminate virtually all of the limitations associated with other sealing methods like U-cups, O-rings, metal bellows and flat die-cut diaphragms. They can withstand pressures to 6,000 psi (4.137 bar) over a temperature range from -76°F to 626°F (-60°C to 330°C).

  • Homogenous Rubber Diaphragms

    Creative Elastomers provides diaphragms produced entirely of rubber. These homogeneous rubber diaphragms are used in very low-pressure applications when the strength of a fabric reinforced diaphragm is not required. Homogenous rubber diaphragms offer similar functional advantages as fabric reinforced diaphragms and tend to be more economical for our customers not requiring a sturdy construction These diaphragms offer the same functional advantages seen in fabric reinforced diaphragms but they have the added economy of using the Homogeneous construction. Homogeneous construction is possible using all types of elastomers.

  • Fabric-Reinforced Diaphragms

    The fabric reinforcement ensures stability and consistent functional performance over the required range of temperature and pressure conditions, whilst providing greater sensitivity and improved sealing performance than typically possible with alternative fabric reinforced materials. The application also requires very tight dimensional tolerances Our years of experience in the gasket manufacturing industry has proven that certain applications demand that a rubber elastomer layer must be very flexible and tough in order to withstand repeated flexing over a long lifetime. It is required that each and every custom moulded rubber diaphragm be able to handle mandatory operating temperatures and also be resistant to any chemicals, fluids or gases it may come in contact with.

  • Rubber to Metal Bonding

    Creative has the ability to bond metal or plastic inserts to the diaphragm during the molding process. During the process, the insert becomes totally or partial encapsulated by the elastomer. Thus, creating a strong bond between the two by using this bonding process, costly assembly operations can be eliminated.

    Creative Elastomers has capabilities to bond metal or plastics to diaphragms during the molding process. Mechanical bonding is generally the least expensive and simplest method to achieve. This process is accomplished by designing the insert with projections or holes. During the molding process the insert becomes totally or partially encapsulated by the elastomer creating a strong mechanical interlock. Chemical or adhesive bonding utilizes a commercial adhesive applied to the non-elastomeric component. The component is then attached to the elastomer during or after vulcanization depending on the type of bond required and geometry of the diaphragm.

    Steel is the most prevalent insert material used, but brass, stainless steel, aluminum, and nylon are also used. Certain elastomers and insert materials can also develop a cohesive bond through molecular attraction. This is most commonly accomplished with the use of brass and sulfur-cured nitrile.

    By bonding inserts to diaphragms, costly assembly operations can be reduced or eliminated. Additionally, rivet, screw or other fastening methods which might create leakpaths through the diaphragm would be eliminated with a bonded insert.

  • Teflon® Bonded Diaphragms

    Creative has the capability of bonding a Teflon coating to the rubber diaphragm. This technique produces a diaphragm that is more suitable for harsh environments. Creative Elastomers has capabilities to design and manufacture composite diaphragms made from TEFLON/ELASTOMERIC MATERIALS. Creative Elastomers’s process bonds TEFLON to rubber using TEFLON as thin as 0.002" (0.0508 mm) thick. Creative Elastomers unique process and construction produce a diaphragm that is compatible with harsh environments without limiting the life and responsiveness of the diaphragm. For additional strength, fabric may be added to the TEFLON/ELASTOMER composite.
